Free Wine Tastings in Cleveland Park This Weekend

It’s no secret that we at Cleveland Parker love finding great wine in the neighborhood. Especially when it’s free. So before you head out this Friday or Saturday night, we wanted to pass along a couple free tastings scheduled for this weekend at Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits:

1. May 4th from 5-8 pm, Tasting from JAQK Cellars
Come to taste seven wines from this new California winery, JAQK Cellars, including their “High Roller” Cabernet Sauvignon and “Charmed” Sauvignon Blanc. Sweets from Firehook will also be on hand at this event. The store promises “deep discounts” on the wines, though we’re not sure what those are yet. An RSVP is requested for this event at anthony.quinn@clevelandparkwines.com.

2. May 5th from 2-6 pm, Tasting of Wines from Argentina and Spain
Saturday afternoon, Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits will also be offering a free tasting, though this one appears to be more low-key than Friday evening’s event. The store promises a little education on wines from Argentina and Spain as you sip.

For these and all other events in the neighborhood, be sure to check out our Events Calendar.

DC United and West End Cinema Deals

Deutsch: Vereinigte Staaten: MLS-Spiel von DC ...

DC United at home in RFK Memorial Stadium in Washington DC (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Living in the city doesn’t always have to be so expensive. We love these deals because it means we can enjoy more of the city at the same price. We encourage you to take a look at them and if they provide value to you, jump on it!

DC United – 50% off tickets

Sadly, the US team will not make the Olympics in 2012. Drown your sorrows with a pint and some real professional soccer with DC United at RFK Stadium.  Granted, the team has yet to win, but they earned a tie in their last game! Remember that DC United is a franchise with 12 national and international soccer championships to its name. With this deal your DC United tickets are 50 percent off!

West End Cinema – 2 tickets for $11

If you have not been to the West End Cinema yet, we highly suggest that you check it out. It is DCs newest art-house movie theater and we think its a great addition to the community. At 23rd and M, it’s not the easiest to get to from Cleveland Park, but, hey, it’s spring! To give you an idea of what the West End Cinema runs, they are currently playing the documentary Undefeated, animation Chico and Rita, and La guerre est declaree.  I like West End Cinema as a good alternative to E Street Cinema.

Ok that’s it for today, feel free to share great urban living deals with us.  DC United and West End Cinema are just a start.

Cleveland Park/Van Ness Date Night: French Films and Dinner Deals

Have a date on Friday night, but no plans? Here’s our suggestion for Friday night festivities in  the area that won’t break the bank.

Start off your evening with a little French culture. The Hillwood Estate is showing the Best Short French Films of 2011 as part of a weeklong celebration by Alliance Francaise de Washington. Tickets are $8 (you can purchase them here) and allow you to view “ a selection of the best French short films of 2011 as determined by a jury of French film professionals (similar to the American Academy Awards).” The show starts at 6:30 pm and lasts for one hour, but if you arrive early, you can check out the mansion and special exhibits starting at 5:30 pm.

After the show, head across Connecticut to Acacia Bistro. Recently named one of the top 100 restaurants by Washingtonian, Acacia Bistro features Italian cuisine and an impressive wine list. We recommend the small plates, though the menu also offers larger entrees. For a discount on dinner, download the ScoutMob app on your phone. There you will find a free deal for 50% off your dinner or drink bill (up to $15 max discount).
