This Week in Cleveland Park Listserv
One of the best parts of our neighborhood is the small town atmosphere that the Cleveland Park Listserv helps to create. Each Friday we will pull out some (possibly out of context) gems from the Listserv to share with our neighbors and friends. We hope these outtakes of the neighborhood news will get you ready for another great weekend in Cleveland Park!
I wonder if she mentioned censoring “competing” neighborhood news sources as part of the future…
Peggy Robin on the Kojo Nnamdi show. What a fun surprise to click on the radio today and hear Peggy! It was the 12 – 1 hour, The Future Of Neighborhood Communication.
Well he had no pocket for materials! Jeesh…
A young white man in his mid 20′s rang my doorbell on Macomb Street around 6 pm tonight, dressed in running clothes…He started talking about his organization, “Cross fit”, soliciting money, but he had no materials with him, was sweating from his run, and just seemed off. I told him I was actually busy, and he immediately became aggressive and said that if I was busy I should not have answered the door.
Won’t work for us anymore, but if you’re tacky enough to use it… free!
Free to someone who can use it! This headboard was designed for our former house in New Mexico, but we don’t think we will be able to continue to use it in the future.
Apple’s genius, a new key will be $99…
Does anyone have experience with fixing a top key of a MacBook Pro? I can’t seem to get it back on. My husband works only on PCs and does this all the time with his equipment but can’t get it back on.
Clearly didn’t spend a lot of time on the 4P’s patio late night, genial doesn’t come to mind…
McFadden’s is the “douchiest” bar in DC…And this is what we can apparently expect to occupy the premises long held by our genial friend and neighbor, Ireland’s Four Fields.
It’s hard to question someone’s passion…
My name is Ketura Persellin, and I’m an image consultant, writer, and public speaker. I’ve lived in and near Cleveland Park for 12 years. I believe every woman has the right to look and feel beautiful just as she is today, regardless of her age, weight, lifestyle, or budget, and helping her do that is my passion and my mission.
Another too perfectly crafted request for advice…
This week at the office hasn’t been awkward, but she wants to hang out again soon. Should I tell her I don’t see a future for us? Or should I just keep my distance? For the record, she doesn’t work in my department and neither one of us is managing the other.
Keeping Sidewalks Clear in Cleveland Park

No where to go: Porter St trees overhang the sidewalk by Adas Israel. If you're 3-feet tall you're ok.
Any pedestrian in Cleveland Park knows how frustrating it can be when sidewalks are not clear. This is just a simply annoyance for most neighbors who can walk around obstructions without a problem, but for senior citizens, handicapped, and stroller-pushing neighbors this can be a huge problem.
This is our mini-PSA to remind neighbors that it is their responsibility to trim the trees and/or bushes planted on your property. If they encroach on the sidewalk, they should be trimmed.
Recently Adas Israel had a landscaping company tell them that only DC could trim plants that overhang on the sidewalk. This is only half true. If the plant is on your property then it is your responsibility to keep it trimmed. The city will take care of “street trees” which are located between the sidewalk and curb.
Ordway and Rodman streets west of Connecticut can be a problem for pedestrians. The problem at Adas Israel (pictured above) will be taken care of soon.

Probably not the best planning…
I am having a yard sale on Saturday on Macomb Street and am in need of folding tables to set my wares on. I could pick up the table on Friday and get it back on Saturday or Sunday.
Obviously they heard that McFadden’s is coming…
Two female students starting at AU looking for housing August
Cool!
My name is Alex Edelmann. On Friday July 27th I will be working on my Eagle Scout Project at the Melvin Hazen park entrance to Rock Creek Park. The trail entrance is in bad shape. I need volunteers to help me replace the border of the trail with new railroad ties, and put down new dirt. The work will consist of shoveling dirt and laying new (very heavy) railroad ties into the ground with lengths of rebar. It’ll be fun!
Rare to hear dog hate in DC…
Thankfully, I do not live in McLean Gardens, which probably has the largest concentration of dogs (and their thoughtless owners) in the city. I have many friends and acquaintances who live there and they share one constant complaint: the dogs.
Sunk costs are not sunk when you have the listserv!
I just got back from Chicago and had the unfortunate situation of needing to buy a one-way metro (“L”) ticket, but only having a $20 bill on me, so I’m left with a metro card with $17.75 on it.
Shocking…
I actually keep my car doors unlocked and absolutely nothing in my car: That way I don’t have to deal with calling the auto glass dealer anymore. A little thief was in it the other night because the contents were rifled through but he didn’t get anything and I have an intact window:)
Focus group full of listserv people, that’ll be representative…
We are searching for qualified individuals to participate in a focus group. We are inviting people who watch TV on a daily basis to join us in this particular study.
Uptown Theater Gearing Up for Big Night
This afternoon at the Uptown Theater workers completed maintenance to the awning in preparation for what should be a big night for the historical movie theater. As you can see, the theater has even added a 3:45 AM showing for the Dark Knight Rises, the latest Batman movie that has been causing waves throughout the internet, including on Rotten Tomatoes where comments on the film were suspended.

New Traffic Lights Up in Cleveland Park
Over the past week MC Dean (pictured right at Connecticut and Macomb) has been busy putting up new traffic signals, including pedestrian signals, along Connecticut Ave in Cleveland Park. One of the most upgraded intersections is the infamous Connecticut and Ordway (pictured below). We wrote about the last attempt to upgrade this intersection, which ended prematurely. Hopefully the new signals will speed transportation and enhance safety along the Connecticut Ave corridor. I am not sure as to when the new lights will be unveiled, as you can see pictured below they are currently covered at the Ordway intersection. Hopefully they fix the pedestrian sign where you to cross Ordway by St. Arnold’s, which is currently ignored by just about everyone because of the unnecessarily short window to “walk”.
