This week in the Cleveland Park Listserv
One of the best parts of our neighborhood is the small town atmosphere that the Cleveland Park Listserv helps to create. Each Friday we will pull out some (possibly out of context) gems from the Listserv to share with our neighbors and friends. We hope these outtakes of the neighborhood news will get you ready for another great weekend in Cleveland Park!
This seems to ring true to us…
As you note, mandating business mix is difficult however, especially in an area with such high rents; it is simply difficult for non-restaurants/bars to survive in the neighborhood given the rents. The mandates lead to long-term vacancies (like the ones filled by Palena’s and Ripple’s expansions).
Shop and eat for education…
“Shop at Politics & Prose bookstore this weekend and raise money for Wilson – Dine at nearby Comet Pizza or Terasol to raise more money for Wilson! [Shop] this Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, to support our local public high school.”
Early early early school shopping!
We have put out on the street in front of our house (3097 Ordway Street) a number of 3 ring binders of various sizes (some as large as 4″ wide) as well as a box of binder clips, also of various sizes.
Whoa, that’s a quick turn around … is this American’s version of extreme housing?
My niece is presently a junior at American University. She and her girlfriend are interested in finding a place to live next year … Does anyone know if there is such a thing to be found? They have less than 24 hours to find something!
DUH!
Walking in the neighborhood on this lovely afternoon, I noticed a few recycling bins with big pieces of styrofoam. It can’t be recycled.
Good to know! Adding it to the list…
I took out dinner from [Hawthorn Market] last night and thought the food was fantastic. They have breakfast foods, coffee, sandwiches and a wide array of juices.

Yellow perch, a small treasure
“Long a champion of local and sustainable products, the chef-owner of Dino, the rustic Italian enoteca in Cleveland Park, was rhapsodizing about a delivery of yellow perch on its way to him. The small fish had been caught in a Chesapeake estuary just the day before.”

More than 20 Local Chefs, Restaurants are Beard Semifinalists
“Among the other local nominees are Palena’s Frank Ruta and Birch & Barley’s Tiffany MacIsaac, who were selected as semifinalists in the outstanding chef and outstanding pastry chef categories respectively.”
From The Express…
Produce Results
““I’m the unhealthiest person,” 48-year-old Andrea Thimm proclaimed during a visit to Hawthorne Homemade last week. But her presence at the new rustic market and juice bar near her house in Cleveland Park is an attempt to change that.
