What’s the world saying about Cleveland Park this week? Find out every Thursday in Cleveland Park Mentions…

From Washington Post’s Going out Gurus blog…
The Underground going out of service to make way for Belgian-themed St. Arnold’s the Abbey
“It’s the end of the line for the Underground at St. Arnold’s Cleveland Park. The London-themed basement bar and sibling of the six-month-old mussel bar upstairs will be closing in late July or early August. But the space isn’t going out of service for very long, said St. Arnold’s operating partner Mark Moore: By Aug. 15, the digs will reopen as St. Arnold’s the Abbey, with a Belgian theme replacing the British.”

From Huffington Post (via some great source)…
Fate of Cleveland Park Farmers Market in DDOT’s Hands
“It seems as if the fate of the Cleveland Park farmers market has been sealed. The ANC voted last night 4-2 not to support the market (see voting record below). Brookville Market made the argument that the farmers market would actually put them out of business and this seemed to scare enough commissioners away from supporting the market.”

From Eat the District blog…
Pulpo: Tentacular
“We talk about Cleveland Park a lot here at Eat The District. Maybe too much. But the commercial stretch of Connecticut Avenue betwixt Porter and Macomb is truly a culinary gold mine. Establishments such as Ardeo-Bardeo, Ripple, Medium Rare, and Palena would deter some restaurateurs from jumping into this packed culinary environment. But just a few weeks ago, owner Dino Tapper (also of Logan Circle’s Floriana) brought his newest creation, Pulpo, into the mix. I am happy to report that this Cephalopod focused Tapas spot does not disappoint.”

Pulpo Arms its Way into Cleveland Park
Pulpo, a mid-priced, Spanish-accented tapas place recently opened in the former Tackle Box Cleveland Park location. Business was a bit slow before the liquor license arrived last weekend. Now the neighborhood seems pleased to find another popular cuisine represented on its restaurant row.

First Look at Menu from Pulpo

The owners of Pulpo (formerly Tackle Box) are busy preparing the space for its upcoming opening. In the meantime, we took a peak at its menu and our mouth began watering with excitement.

The menu is divided into areas of tapas: bread, vegetables, meat, seafood, paella and sides.

The bread (pan con tomate) is $7 and can be adorned with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, or white anchovy for an additional cost.

The vegetable tapas range from $5-$9. We’re most excited about the pan roasted Shishito peppers with sea salt ($6) and the Marcona almond crusted goat chesse with orange and olive relish ($7).

The meats range from $7-$25, with the higher end consisting of a full charcuterie plate with Spanish cheeses. We are excited to try the cocoa crusted striploin with Valrhona cocoa, fava beans, fennel, and mint sauce ($14).

The fish tapas range from $8-$14. The simple cod fritters dish (with salt cod and garlic aioli) sounds appealing ($8). The Catalan mussels ($8) will also be high on the list. Following common menu trends the fish section includes lollipops (tuna, anchovy, and octopus, $10).

Three different paella dishes round out the menu (whole prawn, grilled chicken, and roast chorizo). These range from $15-$19.

Breaking: Pulpo Set to Take Over Tackle Box Space

As we’ve alluded to previously, Tackle Box will be replaced by a restaurant conceived by Floriana owners. We received confirmation from Rachael O. Tapper Director of Marketing and Communications for Floriana that the company will be taking over the Tackle Box space on May 7. According to Tapper, “We are estimating a couple weeks of renovations and an open date of late May.” We look forward to this new addition to the neighborhood and wish Tackle Box the best of luck at its Georgetown location.
