This Week in Cleveland Park Listserv
One of the best parts of our neighborhood is the small town atmosphere that the Cleveland Park Listserv helps to create. Each Friday we will pull out some (possibly out of context) gems from the Listserv to share with our neighbors and friends. We hope these outtakes of the neighborhood news will get you ready for another great weekend in Cleveland Park!
Bingo…
I’d suggest that Brookville’s manager has miscalculated his own advantage here. As many people have pointed out, a farmer’s market is more of a complement than a substitute for a supermarket. You can’t feed a household for a week on the expensive and limited offerings of a farmer’s market. For my family, at least, the decision would not be Brookville vs farmer’s market, but Brookville+farmer’s market vs Whole Foods.
This would be a really good business…
The owner of these cats is in the process of moving. Is there someone who could provide a temporary home for 2-4 weeks for these cats? Food and litter provided.
Foxy Cleveland Park, part I…
While foxes are much more exciting, is it just me (or the fact that I’m working from home now) or are others noticing an inordinate number and variety of birds in our backyards? I’m no birder so I can’t identify half of them, but in the past few days I’ve seen: robins, blue jays, cardinals, red headed woodpeckers, chickadees, crows, grackles, sparrows, catbirds, and last evening, what I think
was a house finch (had to look him up) -– he/she was red, but not cardinal red.
Foxy Cleveland Park, part II…
Leaving home at 4:45 AM, I thought to look out for auto vandals. Instead I encountered a 4-legged predator: a gray fox right in the middle of 34th Street. I was turning from Newark when I saw him/her. I stopped mid-turn, watched the fox calmly checking out something on the pavement, and got a street-lit photo with my phone.
Coffee envy…
Before 11 AM where can one buy a coffee and bagel or muffin in Cleveland Park? Since losing our Starbucks and the French bakery we only have Firehook, which has limited seating (even including the patio). Ages ago, Quatermaines had a Cleveland Park coffee house which was forced to close when the rent exploded. More recently we lost the small coffee house located in the shopping center.
