Yoga at the Cleveland Park Library

Getting started with yoga in Washington, DC can be an expensive endeavor.  Most yoga studios offer classes in the $15 range, with many higher (and a few lower).  For yoga newbies, one alternative to hopping into an expensive class is taking a yoga class offered at the Cleveland Park library.  Every Tuesday at 7pm, a beginners yoga class takes place.  Classes are scheduled throughout 2012.  For the occasional yoga practitioner, or for someone who is curious about the practice, this is a great community offering.  Perhaps even more appealing is having the class right in our own neighborhood – an attractive option for weeknight classes.  For yoga class schedules at other DC Libraries check out this blog post.

According to yoga enthusiasts the health benefits of yoga practice are legion.  They include: flexibility, strength, toning muscles, anxiety lessening, stress reduction, and pain prevention.  There is some evidence surrounding improved blood pressure (probably due to improved breathing control and pulse rate) and lower cholesterol.
